About this rug

This 4'0" x 6'11" antique rug was hand-knotted by Afghan Baluch weavers in a Persian-style Malayer design. An ivory field holds a single elongated hexagonal medallion filled with fine herati leaf-and-rosette motifs, its pole reaching toward navy spandrels at each end. A polychrome border of blossoms and serrated leaves frames the whole, and gentle wear has faded the reds and blues to a mellow, antique softness. The ivory ground and curvilinear drawing set it apart from the darker geometric weaves of the region, lending a quieter, more formal character. Modest in scale, it suits an entry, study, or the foot of a bed. A distressed, characterful one-of-a-kind piece, with only one available.
